Stay with Me: The Passion of Jesus

Stay with Me: The Passion of Jesus

There is no greater love than this…

that a man should lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

During Lent and Holy Week, the FireCloud team is usually out on the road visiting schools and parishes sharing the Lent scriptures and the Passion of Jesus Christ.  We always try to do this faithfully and creatively using music and drama, lights and imagination.  We want to tell and re-tell this remarkable story each Lent so that we all might hear it with new ears and a new heart.

In 2021 we couldn’t be out and about. Like everyone else, we were at home alone or with families and loved ones. That got us thinking about what we could offer.

The following is a recording of our reflective Passion called ‘Stay with Me’.  We wrote this a few years ago for high-schoolers and thought it might be a good thing to reflect on while people are at home.  It has a storytelling format with voices and music to help prepare your heart during Holy week. It’s the kind of thing you could listen to alone or as a household group or family, as an imaginative way to connect with the Passion of Jesus.

We offer this recording to be used in any way that’s helpful. You could create a comfortable, prayerful environment and light a candle. Or maybe you’d like to use a journal to reflect and pray as you go. Whatever works for you.  If this Passion reading helps draw you and your loved ones closer to Jesus in some small way during Holy Week – or anytime, we would be really glad.

A few notes

This is an original script by FireCloud © 2018. Our wonderful friends, Fr Gerard Tartaglia,  Sam Begbie, Sophie Whoriskey, Raymond Williams and Fiona Callan are the voices (respectively) of Peter, Judas, Mary Magdalene, the Sorrowful Thief and Mary, the Mother of Jesus.

Sam also plays the gorgeous guitar music.

We never intended to share this recording so this is not a proper studio recording but something we’ve stitched together from bits and pieces we had; forgive us any hitches or glitches in the sound.

The guitar instrumental is inspired by the following pieces of music and all the musical rights belong to these incredible writers, singers and musicians:

    • Stay by JJ Heller form the album Loved
    • My Soul is Sad by Francesca Leftley (Hymns Old and New)
    • Wood and Nails by The Porter’s Gate Worship Project (feat. Audrey Assad and Josh Garrels) from the album Work Songs
    • All my Hope by David Crowder and Ed Cash from the album American Prodigal
